PAPER CUT ART
For the last few years, I’ve created artwork through meticulously cutting shapes out of paper to reveal intricate designs. I was inspired by a French artist who created whimsical artwork, but at the time her pieces weren't for sale. I decided to try to make one for myself and I've been cutting ever since.
My subject matter normally depicts city maps, architecture, and geometric patterns. I have the most fun creating maps, especially of places I’ve traveled. I’m in the process of cutting out some of my favorite cities I’ve visited this year. First in the series is Galway, Ireland. Below is a little video showing the process of cutting out the map. Sped up of course.
For me it’s relaxing and I love getting out from behind my computer. It's something I definitely miss while I've traveling. Plus I never tire of seeing the piece reveal itself, and the instant gratification at the completion of each cut out.
Enjoy the video and let me know if I can supply you with a map of your favorite city!
