As Christmas quickly approaches, trees are up, lists are made, and wreathes are hung. It’s a crazy season of stress, family, and fun. I love scouring the Internet for all of the creative and interesting decorating ideas people come up with for their home. Since the decorations are temporary (unless you are that person that keeps their tree up year round), I find that people are more inclined to push the envelope and go a little further than they would on their normal décor. Below are four nontraditional decorating themes, which may inspire you to be a little more creative on your own home this year.
I have a soft spot for kitschy Christmas. I think because it reminds me of my favorite Claymation movies, and some of my mom’s old ornaments. It’s not a style I see very often in South Louisiana, so it peaks my interest. Aqua, lime, and pink are the colors of choice, hung on silver, white, and tinsel strewn trees. The retro inspired wrapping and patterns are some of my favorite, and how can you resist those adorable ornaments.
This theme feels very wintery and cozy to me. Not quite my style, but I like the earthy and natural palette. It looks like they went into the forest empty-handed and came out with the tree, ornaments and décor. It combines perfectly with a crackling fire, hot chocolate, and your faux bear skin rug.
This style seems young and stylish, with a touch of luxury. The decorations are made up of crystal, silver, and gold with black accents and maybe even a hint of pink. It also includes bold graphic patterns like dots and stripes, with lots of sequins and sparkle. This style ensures that your house will be filled with glitter until February. It's a fun and updated twist on the classic silver and gold palette.
I have deemed this decorating theme Technicolor for all of the bold and bright colors used in the palette. It’s probably where my personal Christmas décor would fall. My interpretation uses oversized ornaments and baubles in a rainbow of colors. It screams fun and whimsy.
