MASTER BEDROOM DESIGN
I’ve been lucky to get some pretty spectacular clients, and the young couple who will own this bedroom are two of the best. Both were decisive and communicated their ideas and intent very well, not to mention adorable. They were a growing family with a new home, and were looking for help to design a few rooms including the Master Bedroom.
They had moved into a home straight from the 80’s with popcorn ceilings, wallpaper border, honey stained doors, and carpet. Since the existing finishes were being removed and because the owners didn’t have any existing furniture, I was basically given a blank slate. Exactly what a designer wants to hear.
Here are a few of the photos I used for inspiration. I was looking for a feeling more than a particular style. Since their lives were about to change with a new baby, they wanted a calm relaxing space to enjoy their upcoming sleepless nights. A soft palette and cozy bed is the centerpiece of all of these rooms.
The final design palette is made up of warm grays, walnut wood, and dark accents. I’m a big fan of mixing patterns, but I wanted to keep it simple in this room. Instead, I used cozy textiles in subdued colors to add warmth and interest. The space was pretty big and since they didn’t really need clothing storage, I added a settee for reading or napping near one of the windows. It’s a quiet transitional space that I hope will give them a little respite from work and their busy lives.
