I believe that the key for my success and happiness lies in creating a balance in my life, a fine balance of work and play, home and travel, social and alone time. This isn’t a new or novel concept, but something I try to apply to my business as well as my life. In striving for this unachievable balance (because honestly you never really get there), I have implemented the practice of contributing monthly to a charitable program.
I chose Kiva as the main recipient of my donations. I love the idea that my money is going towards funding a loan, and the recipient is using the loan to better their lives. You get to put a face and story behind your donation. Once the loan is paid back, I can use that same money to help someone else. Since I’m in the business of making homes better, I always contribute to loans being used for home repairs or upgrades. It’s a system that I stand behind and have enjoyed being apart of for the last two years, and I intend to continue the contributions in the coming year.
The image above are the 12 individuals I was able to help through my business this year, in addition to some other worthwhile causes locally and abroad. Compared to large organizations it’s nothing substantial, but it’s something I’m immensely proud of. I feel privileged that I’m able to work on my own at a job that I love. Making these donations allows me to stay grateful, humble, and helps me to strive toward balance in my work and life.
